Becky Wright and The Green Goddess Garden Club of McLendon-Chisholm
Posted on Jan 1st, 2026

One of the things I love most about our community is how neighbors turn their passions into something that brings people together. I’m excited to shine a light on someone who has done exactly that, Becky Wright, founder of the Green Goddesses Garden Club of McClendon Chisholm.
Becky and her husband Mike moved to Sonoma Verde from Mississippi in 2021, eager to be closer to their daughter and growing family. Like many people house-hunting during that chaotic “covid” market, doing it from seven hours away didn’t make it any easier, but they landed in Sonoma Verde thanks to a helpful realtor, and we’re so glad they did.
What drew them in? “We love the convenient location being so close to neighboring towns, restaurants, and shopping while still feeling like we’re ‘in the country,’” said Becky.
Their favorite things about SV are the same things so many of us appreciate: the pool, the walking trail right behind their home, and all the fun holiday events for kids.
After all, how many neighborhoods can say they’ve had a mechanical bull, pony rides, fireworks on the 4th of July, and Santa visits?
Becky adds to our expanding community calendar with her hobby that I will add she is really good at- gardening! Her love for gardening started in her 30s and blossomed thanks to her grandparents’ influence. She’s been part of garden clubs since 1984, calling them one of her favorite creative and social outlets. After settling in, she found herself missing that sense of community. Add in a few conversations with neighbors who were struggling with our tough Texas soil and sizzling summers, and an idea began to grow.
The Green Goddesses Garden Club is a welcoming, no-fee club open to all residents and friends, the Green Goddesses are here to help seasoned gardeners and total beginners alike. With soil challenges, intense heat, and newcomers unsure where to begin, Becky saw a chance to create a space where neighbors could learn, share, and, of course, have fun.
The group meets on the second Saturday at 1:30 PM, rotating between member homes, the Amenity Center, nurseries, the Arboretum, etc. Meetings take place semi-monthly during key planting seasons, January, March, May, August, and October, including a January seed swap and a March plant swap. Their Facebook page, Green Goddesses Garden Club, McClendon Chisholm, is full of meeting updates, gardening tips, photos, questions, and even extra veggies up for grabs.
Outside of gardening, Becky is a retired physical therapist, an avid reader, and a frequent traveler with her college-sweetheart husband Mike who is a retired nuclear engineer. Their daughter lives nearby, giving them plenty of time with their grandsons (ages 9, 7, and 2), and their son and granddaughters live in Collierville, Tennessee.
If you’ve ever thought about gardening, or just want to connect with some truly friendly neighbors, Becky would love to welcome you.
